Ingredients of Meat pie

  1. It's of Filling ingredients 1 big Irish potato.
  2. You need 300 grams of minced meat.
  3. It's 1 of big carrot.
  4. You need 1 of med onion.
  5. Prepare 2 of heaped tbspn flour.
  6. Prepare 1 of and half cup water.
  7. It's 1 of cooking spoon veg oil.
  8. It's 1/2 tsp of thyme.
  9. You need 1/2 tsp of curry.
  10. Prepare 2 of knorr chicken cubes.
  11. You need 1/2 tsp of garlic powder.
  12. It's of Dough ingredients.
  13. It's 500 grams of flour.
  14. It's 1 of tspn baking powder.
  15. Prepare 250 of margarine or butter.
  16. Prepare 1/4 cup of cold water.

A great recipe for leftover meat! When pork is cooked remove fat from pan. The aroma was familiar to me, and I asked for a taste. To my amazement, it was the same pie my grandmother used to serve when I was a youngster!

Meat pie step by step

  1. For filling..dice ur potato, onion and carrot and set a side.
  2. Place pot on medium heat. Add veg oil wen hot, add onion and sautè til translucent.
  3. Add minced meat,fry fr 2 to 3 mins to break up clumps or until it lose it pink colour.
  4. Add diced potato, carrot.then add a cup of water, also add knorr cubes, thyme, curry powder, garlic and salt to taste. Cover and cook til veggies ar soft.
  5. In a bowl Mix 2 tablespoons of flour wit 1/2 cup water, mix til u get milky consistency and set aside. When d veggies ar soft and cooked, add d flour and water mixture and mix well. Switch off heat.
  6. Dough method.
  7. Mix flour, baking powder together and sift.
  8. Add d butter to d flour to get crumbs like consistency.
  9. Create a well in d mixture, add water gradually..u myt not pour all d water. Knead dough very well. It shld b thick and non sticky..wrap and kip in fridge fr 30 mins.
  10. Break egg in a small bowl,whisk and kip aside. Aftr 30 mins, bring out dough and place on flat surface.
  11. Knead a bit. Cut dough in small pieces and roll. Get a round lid and cut out circles.
  12. Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of filling into d dough, rub egg mixture on d edges,this wil help it seal well. Close and use fork to press it down.
  13. Repeat fr remaining dough..lightly glaze d top of each pie wit d egg mixture..
  14. Bake fr 30 to 40 mins..Enjoy :).

I added a pinch more salt and a little allspice to the recipe, also a teaspoon of poultry seasoning along with the sage that this recipe called for. I have saved this recipe and will continue the old tradition of meat pies for Thanksgiving and New Years Eve. Fill the crust with meat filling and top with remaining pie crust. Seal the two crusts together, rolling to one over the other if needed, and press gently with a fork or fingers.
